What is infertility?
Infertility is the inability to become pregnant despite one year of normal marital sexual relations.
What causes infertility?
Female factors: hormonal disorders or inability to ovulate regularly and healthily; abnormalities of the uterus or blocked fallopian tubes; immunological incompatibility between the man and woman.
Male factors: abnormal genital anatomy; insufficient sperm count, movement or normal morphology.
Female reproductive organs
Vulva — external structures.
Vagina.
Cervix — neck of the womb.
Uterus — womb.
Fallopian tubes.
Ovaries.
Male reproductive organs
Testicles.
Vas deferens ducts.
Prostate.
Urethra.
Penis.
Egg development in women
The number of immature egg cells reaches its highest level, seven million, at 22 weeks of embryonic development. It then continually decreases, falling to two million at birth and 400,000 at puberty.
The menstrual cycle
The egg reaches maturity and becomes capable of fertilisation on day 14 of the menstrual cycle. During ovulation it is released from the ovary into the abdominal cavity. The uterine lining prepares to receive the fertilised egg, or embryo.
How does pregnancy occur?
When the egg is released on day 14, the fallopian tubes capture and retain it. Sperm reaches it within 48 hours, penetrates its outer covering and fertilisation takes place. The fertilised egg (embryo) then travels through the tubes to the uterus within six days and implants in the upper part of the uterus. The tubes must be open and their inner surfaces normal.
When the embryo reaches the uterus
The uterus must be hormonally prepared and free from inflammatory problems to retain the embryo.
Why might pregnancy not occur?
1. Uterine abnormalities or blocked fallopian tubes.
2. Absent or impaired ovulation.
3. Sperm-related problems.
Uterine abnormalities
1. A double uterus.
2. Absence of one side of the uterus.
3. A uterine septum.
Blocked tubes or adhesions
A substance introduced through the cervix makes the uterus visible; laparoscopy allows inspection inside the abdomen.
Fibroids in the uterus
Fibroids may prevent pregnancy entirely or cause miscarriage. Symptoms depend on how the fibroid develops.
Tubal adhesions, endometriosis and ectopic pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy may occur: 1. In the fallopian tubes. 2. In an ovary. 3. In the abdominal cavity.
Sperm abnormalities
1. Insufficient sperm count.
2. Lack of properly and rapidly moving sperm.
3. Lack of normally shaped sperm.
4. An unhealthy environment transporting sperm.
The male factor in infertility
Problems with the proper functioning of male genital anatomy and physiology account for the male contribution to infertility.
Effects of hormonal disorders in women
Hormonal dysfunction affects menstrual regularity and ovulation.
Consequences of hormonal disorders in women
Hormonal disorders can lead to excessive weight gain, which needs to be lost again. Excessive hair growth is sometimes also present.
Treatment methods
Treatment first requires identifying where the problem occurs, then addressing that finding.
Hormonal disorders and ovulation treatment
Different tablets and injections may help regulate hormones and support healthy ovulation.
Treatment of blocked tubes
Various operations may open adhesions and blockages to restore passage.
Endometriosis
The source text describes tissue normally inside the uterus being present elsewhere, and the possibility of addressing associated functional problems, particularly involving the tubes.
Treatments for male reproductive disorders
Some sperm count and morphology disorders may require medication and sometimes surgery.
Intrauterine insemination (sperm washing)
The source describes strengthening sperm with special preparations and introducing it through a special catheter into a woman who has been prepared for the procedure.
IVF
Medication stimulates a woman to produce multiple eggs. These eggs are collected medically, fertilised with sperm outside the body, and the resulting embryo is transferred back to the woman.

- Uterus rahim
- Tüpler
- Over yumurtalık
Erkek Genital Organları:
- Testis Hayalar
- Duktus Referens Kanalları
- Prostat
- Uretra
- Penis
Kadınlarda Yumurta Gelişimi:
Kadın hayatında yumurta hücresinin ham hali embryonal 22 haftada 7 milyondur, bu en yüksek rakamdır, bu tarihten itibaren sürekli azalır doğumda 2 milyona ergenlikte 400 bine düşer.
Adet Düzeni Menstrüel Siklus:
Yumurta adetin 14.
