Stage of research
2024–2026 research guide

Start with the question a method addresses
Does the research aim to find extremely rare sperm, understand impaired production, or restore production? Two people with the same diagnosis may have different findings and options. Use these articles as a map of questions for your consultation rather than as a substitute for an assessment of your records.
Five fields with different goals
This collection covers rare sperm searches, genetic assessment, previously stored testicular tissue, stem-cell research and cell selection for ROSI. Each article links to its original research record. Ask who was studied and how their situation compares with yours, rather than deciding on the basis of a technique’s name.
Ask what success actually means
Sperm retrieval, fertilisation, embryo development, pregnancy and live birth are separate outcomes. When a percentage is quoted, ask whether it refers to patients, eggs or embryos. Request comparisons that use the same outcome and similar patient groups. This helps you appreciate a promising finding without turning it into a personal probability.
Prepare for your next discussion
Arrange previous semen analyses and any surgical, pathology and genetic reports in date order. Ask which additional information could change a decision, how waiting would affect your joint plan and how options should be prioritised. In an IVF consultation with Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çolakoğlu, you can discuss coordination of male reproductive assessment and embryology findings.
Frequently asked questions
Do these developments offer the same opportunity to everyone?
No. First identify the patient group a study addresses. Discuss with your specialist how closely your own findings match that group.
Should I delay treatment because of a research headline?
Avoid deciding from one headline. Discuss the implications of waiting, current options and your priorities as a couple in an individual consultation.
